MEET THE owners
Babette Reynolds
Babette is a contemporary landscape painter whose work captures the interplay of light, horizon, and sky over mountain landscapes. Her artistic roots trace back to her grandmother’s sewing shop, where she was surrounded by richly colored satins, silks, and taffetas. Those early influences, along with inspiration from Amish and Gee’s Bend quiltmakers, continue to inform her bold use of color and layered abstraction in oil and cold wax.
Babette’s lifelong connection to mountains — from the Hudson Valley and Catskills of her youth, to summers in the Austrian Alps, to her life in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Jackson Hole, Wyoming — fuels her creative process. At Blue Star Gallery, her work is shown alongside a diverse roster of artists, reflecting the gallery’s mission to celebrate a wide range of voices, styles, and perspectives in the arts.
David Newton
David has spent his career telling stories — first as a reporter covering Super Bowls and NASCAR championships, and later as ESPN’s Carolina Panthers reporter. What he’s always valued most is the power of storytelling to connect people, whether through sports, culture, or shared experiences.
That perspective is what led him to the gallery. He recognizes art as another form of storytelling — one that captures emotion, place, and perspective in ways words sometimes can’t. Opening the gallery was a natural extension of his lifelong passion for celebrating voices and moments that matter. It also reflects his commitment to the Carolinas, where he has lived and worked for decades, by creating a welcoming space for the community to engage with creativity and conversation.
